Color Coating Process

The process of color coating involves applying different layers of color sequentially to the surface of the silicone keypad. For instance, to achieve a black background with white symbols, a white layer is first sprayed onto the keypad surface, followed by a black layer to cover the white. Laser etching is then used to reveal the white symbols underneath.

For keypads with multiple colored buttons, additional key caps are used to cover unnecessary buttons during the coating process. This prevents the mixing of inks between different colored buttons. Once the coating is complete, the key caps are removed, ensuring the buttons retain their original colors.

Light Leakage Prevention

Color coating can cover the entire keypad, including button sides and any intricate corners, effectively preventing light leakage if LEDs are installed beneath the buttons. In contrast, color printing typically involves applying a single layer of ink to the button surface, which is insufficient to prevent light leakage. To mitigate this, at least two layers of printing and coating are necessary.

Suitability for Uneven Surfaces

Color coating is particularly advantageous for rubber keypads with uneven surfaces, where traditional silkscreen printing is ineffective. The coating can be applied evenly across irregular surfaces, allowing for precise graphics and symbols to be laser etched post-coating.
