Conductive Methods

  • Carbon Pills: Carbon pills are tiny conductive elements made from silicone rubber filled with carbon. They’re placed strategically under the keypad buttons. When you press a button, the carbon pill connects with the circuit board, letting the electrical signal flow through.
  • Conductive Ink Printing: Conductive ink is a special type of ink mixed with conductive materials like silver or carbon. It’s printed onto the rubber keypad’s surface, creating pathways for electricity. Pressing a button makes the ink traces touch the circuit, completing the electrical connection.
  • Metal Domes: Metal domes are small metal discs, often stainless steel, placed under the keypad buttons. When you press a button, the dome collapses, touching the circuit board below. This touch completes the circuit and registers the button press.
  • Metal Pills: Like carbon pills, metal pills are tiny conductive elements made from metals like stainless steel. They’re placed under the buttons and work similarly to carbon pills, letting electrical signals pass through when buttons are pressed.

These methods make sure rubber keypads send electrical signals well, so they’re important parts of electronic devices like remote controls, keypads, and control panels. The choice of method depends on what the application needs and how the keypad feels when you press it.
