Custom Color coating Silicone Rubber Keypad Buttons Multi-Color

Ever heard of coating coating rubber keypads? They’re also called color coating keyboards or color painting silicone buttons. Essentially, they’re clear rubber keypads coated with various colored inks to create a multi-color keypad. These keypads often have legends and graphics laser-etched onto them, making them perfect for backlighting.

When dealing with rubber keypads that have uneven surfaces, traditional methods like silkscreen printing won’t cut it for printing graphics. Instead, color painting the uneven rubber keypad first, followed by laser etching symbols onto the buttons, proves to be the effective approach.

Here’s how the rubber keypads color coating process works:

Different color layers are applied one by one to the surface of the silicone keypad. For instance, let’s say we’re making a keyboard with a black background and white symbols. First, we spray white color onto the keypad surface, then we coat it with black to cover the white layer. Finally, we use a laser to etch the surface, revealing the white symbols.

When it comes to color printing keypads, only one layer of ink is applied to the surface of the buttons. However, to avoid light leakage, especially with backlighting, a single layer of printing isn’t sufficient. That’s why we need to apply at least two layers of printing and coating. This ensures that the colors remain vibrant and prevent any light from leaking through the keypad.

Preventing Color Mixing in Keypad

When dealing with rubber keypads featuring multi-colored buttons, it’s crucial to prevent the colors from mixing. One way to achieve this is by using additional button key caps to cover the unnecessary buttons. This ensures that the color coating is applied only to the designated buttons, keeping them separate from each other. Once the coating process is complete, the key caps can be removed, leaving the rubber buttons with their original colors intact.
