Silicone Material Selection
Choosing the appropriate silicone material is essential when customizing laser keyboards. Transparent silicone rubber generally performs better than standard translucent silicone in this regard. This selection guarantees a noticeable color contrast between the inner and outer components. For example, if the inner plating is white, it is often preferable to choose a black surface color. If you use an inner translucent silicone keypad with a gray or black surface, laser-marked characters may not be clearly visible without proper backlighting. Therefore, it is vital to carefully consider the silicone material to achieve optimal performance for laser keyboards.
Designing Custom Laser-Etched Keyboards: A Step-by-Step Process
- To design a custom laser-etched keyboard, follow these steps: apply a base coat of ink to determine the desired characters, patterns, or background colors for the top surface. Choose the first coat of ink to match the desired legend color, and the second coat, aimed at absorbing light, should be black or gray. Finally, apply the keyboard’s surface color as the last coat of ink.
- The basic compression transparent elastomer rubber keypads undergo a laser etching process after production. This process involves spraying the keypads with an opaque coating. The first coating color matches the desired legend color, while the second coating color matches the keypad’s surface color.
- The keypads are then placed into a laser cutter machine for the etching process to take place. This process ensures that the keyboard’s surface is etched precisely with the desired characters, patterns, or designs.
