When designing or manufacturing silicone rubber keypads, it’s important to consider not only the force required to press the buttons and the structure of the keypad – such as the distance the buttons travel, the materials used for conductivity, and the webbing between the buttons – but also the surface and material requirements. These include things like symbols and icons, protective covers, choice of silicone materials, transparency, hardness, and color coating.

Silicone Button Travel Distance:

This refers to the distance between the silicone key and the conductive layers on the PCB. Common travel options for silicone keypads range from 0.9mm to 1.2mm.

Actuation Force of Silicone Keypads:

The force required to depress the keys is typically chosen to provide tactile feel and feedback, and typically ranges from 90 grams to 180 grams.
